Today the AFL released its fixture for the 2016 season. One innovation is that there will be no games in the week before the finals. This is a great idea, because it's one way of giving all teams a better chance of being competitive.
As sports commentators have observed, recent AFL premierships have been won by the same handful of teams. In recent years, the NRL premiership has been won by a different team every year. This shows that teams in the NRL are more evenly matched than those in the AFL.
